Commission

If you want prints of existing artwork, some are available to purchase on my DeviantArt account, sau-san. If you like something more specific, for example; your own characters/ ideas, webpage design or even a short comic book story you’ve written and you want me to draw it, then why not hire me? =D
My quotes are not based on an hourly rate, but I have a rough outline of quotes and examples below. Please note, prices vary -depending on how complicated the piece of art you’ve commissioning me. More information about the process below, please read carefully. =)

Why don’t you charge on an hourly rate? Won’t it be easier that way?
Yes, it would be easier for everyone. I want my customers get the most out of their money, even if it’s a simple piece of art I like to take time on it. It’s a lot cheaper!

Negotiation
To save time for both you and me, here is a list you may need to run through before getting in touch.

- What is going to be on the artwork? How many characters are there? Will there be a background?
- What style and materials do you want?
My usual style; shoujo-style, kid-friendly or “chibi” style? Cell shaded, traditional (colour pencils, markers, inked or sketched)?
- What will the end product be?
Jpeg, gif, print (A4, glossy paper, original piece)?

Once you have got a clear idea on what you want, email me at; san[at]dblstudio.com.
We will negotiate the price and I’ll work on a rough sketch. Once we’re happy with the price and the sketch, then negotiations are done. ;D

Payment
After negotiation, you are able to pay me either full amount or half which ever you prefer. I recommend using PayPal, I occasionally accept cheques (only from publishers and established companies). If you’re not from a publisher or any kind of company, I have to receive full payment before I give the commissioned art to you.

Copyrights and all that Jazz
Yes you can buy the rights to the commission (NOT my existing characters/works). Depending on the commission, there will be an extra fee to buy the rights to the artwork. There are a few conditions:
1) You must credit me and display my full name clearly along with the artwork: Suzanne (Sau-San) Lam
2) You must display my web address next to my name: www.dblstudio.com
3) You are not allow to distort my work. Resizing, cropping, flipped and changing colours is fine.

Once you pay me the fee you have the rights to the commission, you can make all the money from it without giving me a single penny! =) Please be honest and inform me about what you like to do with my art, whether it’s for a book cover or an advert.
When we settle on an agreement, we can sign some paper work. (If you’re from a publisher or company, it would be better if you provide me the paper work, but if not that’s fine. I could provide the paper work.)

If you’re commissioning me to draw your own characters, you have full rights to your characters. I have no rights to them, all I want is credit to the artwork.
Also if you want to commission me to draw somebody else’s characters, make sure you have their permission first.

Procedure
When you’re happy with the price and rough sketch we can proceed to the final stages. I will need to recieve full or half the payment before I work on the final piece. I will get in touch with you to let you know how it goes. When I’m finished I will notify you by email and send the commission to you.

Dos and Don’ts
I am more than willing to try something new in my art, however for your satisfaction I advise you not to commission me for something completely different from what you see in my gallery. It’s not because I can’t do it, I’m just afraid it doesn’t turn out as well as you’ve hoped for. I advise you to commission me to draw what I draw best. If you want to challenge me, that’s fine, but you’ve been warned. =D

Here is a list of things that I don’t draw:
- Pornography
- Gore
- Hate propaganda
- Anything that promotes drugs, alcoholism, smoking, & killing animals (includes eating meat and wearing fur)

Thank you for taking your time reading this lengthy page! =D I hope to hear from you soon with your commission! Email with the subject; “COMMISSION” to: san[at]dblstudio.com.
If you have any questions at all, please email me.
